What if you could introduce matching in the hiring process?

CompanyMatch.me does exactly this, looking to match candidates on cultural fit before they even apply for a job, and in some cases they can filter candidates to only show jobs to candidates that are, for example, an 80%+ cultural fit.

An interview by Peter Gold of Storifyd in the UK. Read the full story.

In my early recruiting days when mobile phones didn’t exist and psychometric assessments were black magic, anything a bit “clever” to help us dumb recruiters go beyond gut feel was a differentiator. It didn’t matter if they worked or not, as long as the customer was impressed. Although to be fair, I found them really interesting and I did think they helped improve the results and quality of hiring.

But fast forward a few years (OK, 20+) and the utterance of online assessments is not exactly greeted with whoops of enthusiasm. I do think at times online assessments and the ATS are fine bedfellows. Both given a hard time mainly because they have been around a long time and have in some cases not kept up with the constant change going on around them.

Traditionally, an online assessment is used towards the end of the process, after a lot of time and effort has been expended by the applicant and the recruiter, often only to find that in reality it had all been a waste of time when they “failed the test”. Now before all you A and B qualified practitioners tell me the assessment results are only part of the decision, I know. But often the perception is that they failed the test when it could have been that they should have never got that far so the interview was not getting the best result. Either way, by the time the test comes along, everyone has done a lot of work. So what if you could do better sifting/matching at the start of the process?

ATS integration

ATS integration is always a sticking point in the application process but CompanyMatch have a simple widget that can be put onto the career site with no integration whatsoever. This serves to allow the candidate to see if the company suits them before they waste time applying for a job and in turn reduces the number of “bad” applicants and improves the quality of those that do apply. Once a company has tried the widget, assuming they see success, they can then look to integrate this with their ATS. The video below shows the process at a high level.

In theory doing the matching at an earlier stage is better for everyone and with no costly integration fees to start with, it’s an easy decision to give it a try. Although UK inhouse recruiters are a cautious bunch so it will need someone to try it out then tell all their friends about it. I wonder who will be first?
